CIF/FOB Gulf Grain-Soy barge bids rise on export demand, USDA reports sales
Oct 23 (Reuters) -Basis bids for soybeans shipped by barge to U.S. Gulf Coast terminals and loaded for export were higher on Wednesday on firm demand and limited availability for nearby supplies, traders said.
* Exporters sold 130,000 metric tons of U.S. soybeans to China and 259,000 metric tons of U.S. soybeans to unknown buyers for 2024-25 delivery, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said via its daily reporting system.
* Exporters also sold 100,000 metric tons of U.S. corn to unknown buyers, according to USDA, which has reported daily sales of corn for six business days in a row.
* Low prices have boosted export demand for corn, and farmers have been slow to sell their crops during a rapid harvest, traders said.
* Analysts expect USDA on Thursday will report 2024-25 U.S. export sales of 1.2 million to 2.4 million metric tons for soybeans and 2.2 million to 3.3 million metric tons for corn in the week that ended on Oct. 17.
* Low water levels on the Mississippi River continue to limit the amount of cargo per vessel and the number of barges that can be attached together.
* CIF October soybean barges were bid at 130 cents over Chicago Board of Trade November SX24 futures after trading at 127 cents over futures on Tuesday. CIF November soybean barges were bid 3 cents higher at 110 cents over futures.
* FOB offers for November soybean shipments were steady at 136 cents over futures.
* CIF October corn barges were bid a penny higher at 95 cents over CBOT December corn CZ24 futures. November barges were bid 2 cents higher at 93 cents over futures.
* FOB Gulf offers for November and December corn shipments were each flat at 120 cents over futures.
