Turkey - Factors To Watch on Oct 23
ISTANBUL, Oct 23 (Reuters) -Here are news, reports and events that may affect Turkish financial markets on Wednesday.
The lira TRYTOM=D3 was quoted at 34.2250-34.2800 against the U.S. dollar at 0430 GMT, compared with Tuesday's close of 34.2385.
The main BIST 100 share index .XU100 closed 2.13% higher at 8,838.60 points on Tuesday.
GLOBAL MARKETS
Gold prices jumped to record high and the dollar was on the rise again on Wednesday, keeping the pressure on the yen and the euro, while stocks in Asia stuttered as investors were reluctant to place major bets ahead of a hotly contested U.S. election.
ERDOGAN AT BRICS SUMMIT
President Tayyip Erdogan will attend the BRICS summit being held in Kazan, Russia and meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
HALKBANK HALKB.IS
A U.S. appeals court on Tuesday said the federal government may prosecute Turkey's Halkbank on charges it helped Iran evade American sanctions, rejecting the state-owned lender's argument that it deserved immunity. Halkbank said it will appeal the decision.
CONSUMER CONFIDENCE TRCONC=ECI
The Turkish Statistics Institute will announce October consumer confidence index data. (0700 GMT)
LEBANON TROOP MANDATE
Parliament will discuss extending for another year the mandate for Turkish soldiers to serve with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). (1100 GMT)
PARLIAMENTARY GROUP MEETINGS
The Saadet Party (0630 GMT) and IYI Party (0730 GMT) will hold parliamentary group meetings.
INDUSTRY MINISTER
Industry and Technology Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacir will attend the Webrazzi Summit 2024 (0710 GMT), a SAHA defence fair panel (0800 GMT) and an Istanbul Chamber of Industry meeting. (1200 GMT)
