Europe before the bell: busy earnings, China gets the blame

EUROPE BEFORE THE BELL: BUSY EARNINGS, CHINA GETS THE BLAME
Futures are pointing to a fairly flat open at the index level, but with another busy day of earnings, it's really all about the single stocks.
Stoxx 50 futures STXEc1 are down 0.08%, with DAX, FTSE and CAC40 futures all within 0.1% of flat. .FFIc1, FCEc1, FDXc1
Turning to those earnings, the auto sector had another bout of bad news as Mercedes-Benz MBGn.DE said third-quarter earnings in its core car division plunged by 64%, massively missing analysts' estimates, as Chinese consumers continued to cut back on luxury goods in a weakening economy.
Similarly, French automotive supplier Valeo VLOF.PA on Thursday cut its annual sales guidance for the second time this year.
French spirits maker Remy Cointreau RCOP.PA also pointed to worsening market conditions in China as a driver behind a larger-than-expected drop in its quarterly sales.
Though there was some more positive news from British lender NatWest NWG.L who reported a 25% rise in third quarter profit, and at Accor ACC.PA Europe's largest hotel group by portfolio, which said it saw strong demand at luxury hotels, though also said demand in China was weak.
Not too much to watch in macro news today, but in Germany, there’s the Ifo business climate indicator for October, and U.S. durable goods numbers.
